Wärtsilä splashes €50 million on R&D expansion

Despite the sorry state of shipping companies reeling after Trump’s tariff policies, Finland-listed marine tech giant Wärtsilä has invested €50 million on a R&D expansion project.

Wärtsilä is set to expand the testing capabilities and facilities at its Sustainable Technology Hub in Vaasa, Finland, in a move that underscores its commitment to accelerating the development of sustainable marine and energy technologies. The planned 8,000-square-metre extension, due for commissioning in 2028, will bolster the company’s ability to address the growing demand for next-generation, fuel-flexible solutions and support future applications of low- and zero-carbon fuels.
