Incat’s hybrid electric ferry on course for peak season launch

Construction of Incat’s latest 78-metre hybrid electric ferry is advancing steadily, with the vessel expected to enter service in the first half of 2026 – aligning with the peak period for operators preparing for the Northern Hemisphere summer season.

The new ferry has been designed to prioritise low-emission operations and represents a significant step forward in Incat’s development of electric vessels. Building on experience gained from Hull 096 – the world’s largest battery-electric ship, which is also nearing completion at Incat’s Tasmanian facility – the new design integrates the latest in electric propulsion and lightweight construction.
