Chevron Marine Lubricants formulation gains LNG validation from WinGD

Luc Verbeeke, Senior Staff Engineer at Chevron Marine Lubricants

Chevron Marine Lubricants has announced that its Taro Ultra Advanced 40 formulation has been granted LNG Validation status by WinGD, a leading Swiss marine power company. This latest approval builds on the previously awarded ‘gas general use’ designation, enabling the lubricant to be used across WinGD’s entire gas engine portfolio.

Designed to surpass the performance of earlier low Base Number (BN) formulations, Taro Ultra Advanced 40 offers enhanced protection for marine engines. The lubricant effectively maintains piston cleanliness while operating at moderate BN and oil ash levels. Furthermore, it delivers robust cylinder lubrication for the latest generation of large, low-speed diesel engines equipped with exhaust abatement technologies. Taro Ultra Advanced 40 is compatible with a wide range of fuels, including VLSFO, ULSFO, LNG, and methanol.

To achieve LNG Validation, Chevron and WinGD conducted rigorous joint testing. This latest approval follows a No Objection Letter (NOL) from MAN Energy Solutions, further solidifying the oil’s reputation for exceptional performance.
