Hyundai Heavy Industries has produced an aggregate of 20 million bhp in four-stroke engines in what is claimed to be a record time: 19 years and 7 months.
Hyundai has produced 9,089 medium-speed engines since building its first in August 1990. It has produced about 4,000 engines with 10 million bhp in three years after recording an accumulated 10 million bhp production of mid-sized marine engines in 2007. The company claims it accounted for 25% market share of the four-stoke marine engine market as of 2009.
Medium-speed engines ranging from 600 bhp to 13,000 bhp are used as the power generator on large sized vessels, propulsion systems of medium sized ships and as the prime mover in land-based power facilities.
