Al Shelila: Milestone for Chinese LNG carrier construction

The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), Jiangnan Shipyard (Group) Co., Ltd., and classification society DNV marked a significant milestone with the naming and delivery of Al Shelila, China’s first large-scale Mark III Flex membrane LNG carrier.

This 175,000 cbm vessel, the first in a series of six, represents one of the most advanced LNG carriers constructed in China, featuring cutting-edge technology for efficiency and emissions reduction, including an optimised hull form, twin-skeg design, high-efficiency propellers, and air lubrication systems.

As global demand for liquefied natural gas (LNG) grows to secure energy supply, LNG carriers have become critical assets. Developing the expertise and infrastructure to deliver such complex projects in a highly competitive market requires robust collaboration among stakeholders. The Al Shelila is a prime example of this collaborative effort, incorporating advanced technology and expertise from across the maritime sector.
