A 13,000 TEU LNG-ready containership owned by South Korean shipping company HMM has successfully utilised alternative maritime power (AMP) at South Korea’s Gwangyang Port, achieving an estimated reduction of approximately 16 tonnes of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

The vessel is equipped with an electric circulation steam system (ECSS), which enabled the ship to completely shut down its boiler during AMP usage, allowing for emission-free operations. HMM stated that this trial resulted in a reduction of around 16 tonnes of GHG emissions compared to business-as-usual scenarios.
