MAN ES’ ME-GI engine orders pick up in LNG carrier segment

South Korean shipyard Hanwha Ocean has placed an order for four MAN B&W 5G70ME-GI Mk10.5 engines to be installed in two 174,000 cbm LNG carriers for an undisclosed shipowner.

The engines will be constructed in South Korea by Hanwha Engine, with the contract including an option for two additional vessels. Each engine will be integrated with MAN Energy Solutions’ proprietary Exhaust Gas Recirculation ByPass (EGRBP) system.

Bjarne Foldager, head of two-stroke business at MAN Energy Solutions, highlighted the significance of the order: “It is very satisfying to see our ME-GI engine gaining further traction in the LNG carrier segment. The ME-GI’s mature technology ensures extremely low levels of methane slip, making it the most future-proof methane engine available.”
