The Motorship Propulsion & Future Fuels Conference are pleased to announce Jarkko Väinämö, Chief Operating Officer, Norsepower as the latest speaker to join the PFF Live WindPower and Windassisted Propulsion online session, due to take place May 18, 2021, 11-12 CEST.
In his role as Chief Operating Officer, Jarkko is responsible for operations, technology, R&D and product management.
Joining Norsepower in 2013, Jarkko is an experienced product developer and has worked with renewables and clean-tech since 2001. He has previously worked as Director of Engineering at Winwind, the first Finnish multi-megawatt wind turbine manufacturer.
With many years experience, Jarkko will give invaluable contribution to this session.
Jarkko added ‘Wind propulsion for ships really does have it all – it closes the high carbon intensity gap until new fuels arrive, saves money now; and more in the future with reduced emissions and increased fuel savings. Investment in technology that reduces fuel consumption offers an opportunity to future proof vessels against inevitable fuel price increases as new fuels like ammonia and hydrogen enter the market.’
Jarkko joins the high profile panel of PFF Live, including technical experts spanning across operators, manufacturers and classification societies, who will be discussing their current wind projects and the technical requirements of integrating these systems aboard vessels.
WindPower and Windassisted Propulsion had been considered a slightly eccentric option, but has now gained its place as a true contender and contributor in achieving the IMO 2050 goal for decarbonisation of the shipping sector.
