The agreement of a deal to achieve climate neutrality for global shipping by 2050 at the 80th meeting of the IMO’s Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) last night is a significant milestone for global shipping.

But the limitations of the deal also reveal the challenges facing the IMO as it seeks to balance competing interests among member states.
