bound4blue lands Maersk Tankers contract

bound4blue has secured a major contract with Maersk Tankers, advancing its role in the shipping industry’s transition to wind-assisted propulsion.

This agreement is the company’s largest to date for wind-assisted propulsion systems (WAPS), with bound4blue set to install 20 type-approved eSAIL® suction sails across five MR tankers in 2025 and 2026.

Maersk Tankers selected bound4blue’s eSAIL® solution in collaboration with green technology partner Njord, which assessed various WAPS options to maximise both environmental and commercial gains for these vessels. The autonomous eSAIL® technology functions by pulling air across an aerodynamic surface, creating lift and high propulsive efficiency that cuts down fuel consumption, operational expenses, and emissions.
