The latest Propulsion and Future Fuels Conference builds on recent successful conferences in Hamburg. A highlight for delegates will be the planned technical visit aboard a Scandlines ferry, which will travel between Denmark and Rostock showcasing the use of Flettner rotors.
This year, the conference has opted to move to Copenhagen, Denmark’s capital, which reflects the strength of the maritime sector there, as well as the country’s emerging position as a hub for maritime cleantech. The conference will be held at the Radisson Scandinavian Copenhagen hotel, located in downtown Copenhagen, from 2nd to 4th November. The conference presentations on the first two days will be followed by a technical visit on the 4th – the choice of technical visit complements the theme of wind assisted propulsion, which has earned its own panel in the event for the first time.
The event has evolved from its origins as one of the longest running small scale LNG conferences to cover the entire range of alternative fuels under consideration by the market today.
It is a must-attend event for anybody already using or considering using LNG, ammonia, methanol or even hydrogen as a maritime fuel as the maritime fuel transition gathers pace.
Regulatory issues
Given the critical importance of regulatory developments for commercial decisions around fuel types and conversions, the conference also includes in-depth consideration of a range of topics includes the IMO Energy Efficiency Existing Ship Index (EEXI) and Carbon Intensity Index (CII).
These issues will be discussed by a high-level range of speakers, and will be chaired by Lars Robert Pedersen, Deputy Secretary General, BIMCO, and Martin Kroeger, Managing Director of the German Shipowners’ Association (VDR).
The full conference programme is available to view online.
The keynote session will feature a discussion by Claus W. Graugaard, Head of On-board Vessel Solutions, Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Centre for Zero Carbon Shipping, Wolfram Guntermann, Director Regulatory Affairs, Hapag-Lloyd AG and Bud Darr, Executive Vice President, Maritime Policy and Government Affairs, MSC Group about the impact of the EU Emissions Trading System expansion to cover shipping.
Ngoc-Lan Lang, Policy and Legal officer, from the maritime ETS unit within DG Climate Action at the European Commission will participate in a Question and Answer session hosted by Motorship editor Nick Edstrom on the 3rd.
The conference will also include a dedicated session focused on potential retrofit solutions for shipowners and operators looking to meet upcoming EEXI criteria or to ensure the CII ratings of their vessels remain above Class D as criteria tighten towards the end of the decade.
Networking opportunities
Overall, is the only technical conference to combine a two-day informative and knowledge-based conference with technical visits, as well as networking opportunities at the conference gala dinner.
The event is expected to attract a high-level audience of ship owners, ship managers and naval architects who will travel to Copenhagen from neighbouring Nordic and northern European markets.
Confirmed attendees include C-suite representatives from Engstroem Shipping and Molchem Tankers along with senior technical managers from AP Moeller Maersk, Maersk Tankers, Torm, DS Norden and Svitzer.
