Patrizio Di Francesco is the North Europe special projects business development manager for Registro Italiano Navale (RINA).

He will be sharing his expertise and knowledge in session five of The Motorship Propulsion and Future Fuels conference, which takes place in Hamburg from 19 to 21 November 2024. 

The presentation is entitled “Hydrogen installations on board passenger ships” and covers hydrogen rules (IMO Guideline, class rules), hydrogen technology availability and technical challenges for the hydrogen and fuel cell installation on passenger ships in international trade. 

Patrizio Di Francesco is a representative on the IACS Safe Decarbonization Panel. For over 15 years, he has been dealing with the classification of ships as surveyor and pressure vessel, piping and automation approval engineer, involved in LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) fuelled ships’ new construction and retrofit of energy efficiency technologies.  

He now oversees the classification of innovative projects for the integration of LNG, LPG, methanol, ammonia, hydrogen as fuel and for fuel cell on new and existing ships as well as research projects aiming to develop novel technologies such as reforming/cracking and storage systems. 

He provides technical advice to owners for the development of the right sustainable strategy in order to comply with the IMO emissions target, ETS and FuelEU Maritime regulations through the use of alternative fuels.
