Giving first form to an extensive new series of Chinese-built, versatile singledeckers for intra-European trade, the 5,200dwt Sommen (ex-JSP Lojt) has cut her teeth on the near-sea traffic lifting cargoes between the northwest Continent and southern UK.

The 90m mini-bulker encapsulates the 5200XL type developed by Groot Ship Design of the Netherlands. An initial tranche of contracts entailing 14 examples for German shipowners was awarded to Jiangsu Dajin Heavy Industry, with commercial negotiations led by Hamburg broker Toepfer Transport.
