Dutch-built cement carrier for Great Lakes

Cyprus-based Eureka Shipping has awarded a Dutch yard an order for a diesel-electric cement carrier to be operated in the Great Lakes

The 12,500dwt cement bulker, self-reliant in cargo handling by virtue of mechanical/pneumatic systems, has been designed to replace two older vessels, while maintaining the same transportation capacity.

The construction deal is a coup for Holland Shipyards Group, underscoring its venture into new and specialised market sectors. An early delivery undertaking has been entered into, such that hull fabrication is already under way with a view to handover within the first half of 2025.
