Dr. Harry T. Conway will join the high caliber speakers on the keynote panel for this year’s The Motorship’s 45th Propulsion and Future Fuels Conference, being held in Hamburg from 19 to 21 November.
The session will address the challenges and opportunities offered by EU regulatory requirements and the emerging market for carbon capture.
Dr Conway has a wealth of knowledge in shipping regulations and chaired the 78th and 79th sessions of the MEPC. It was under his leadership during MEPC 80 that the IMO 2023 GHG Strategy was unanimously adopted by member states. He has also chaired several steering committees of the MEPC, including for the Comprehensive Impact Assessment on States of IMO GHG Short-Term Measures and the IMO 4th Greenhouse Gas Study.
Dr. Conway has been part of the Liberia delegation to IMO meetings since 2006, and participates actively in all working, drafting, correspondence and intersessional groups of the committees and subcommittees of the IMO.
He is also a member of the International Quality Assessment Review Body (IQARB), an industry-led initiative to ensure vessels meet required quality regulatory standards.
Dr. Conway was amongst the maritime experts that drafted the 2014 Africa Union ‘2050 Africa Integrated Maritime Strategy’ (AIMS 2050) and chairs the Africa Maritime Advisory Group at the IMO.
Dr Conway holds a PhD from Cardiff University in the UK. He also holds an MA in International Maritime Policy from the University of Greenwich, UK and an MBA from the Hanze University of Applied Sciences, Groningen, Netherlands.
